The Sphinx Society
The Sphinx Society primarily focuses on the acquisition and understanding of unknown magic, magical relics, and the discovery or creation of new and interesting sites or inventions that are heretofore unseen by Imperial society or described in literature. Thanks to its focus on helping society the Sphinx Society also places a premium on magic that is useful beyond just adventuring and can be used to help improve the lives of the common man. Because of this many members of the society spend much of their time between exploration and research followed by documentation and distribution of their findings.
The Sphinx Society prides itself on its collections of arcane, divine, psychic, and occult lore alongside their scholastic content, and often looks for and collects these tomes and artifacts for their own archives. Many of these are collected artifacts of their own expeditions and a few of these tomes like the Hotahtan Scrolls, Iron Geometrics, and Hakasheth Kulten (Lost Cults) have not only become famous in the history books but made the careers of their collectors and those who wrote them. Alongside collection, study and application of scholastic work is highly prized, and innovations magical or otherwise that can be used to further study or aid the civilian populations in their agricultural and daily endeavors are considered to be the most prized, as practical application with the outside world allows them to apply their learned skills to the aid of everyone rather than moldering in the isolated towers and archives of many of their contemporaries.
With their focus on esoteric and occult lore, the Society also tends to run afowl of many more dark, vile, and maddening works left over from ages long gone or worse, crafted by their contemporaries. These collected works are considered too dangerous by many within the society to be shared publicly, and the Society practices collecting these works for their eventual destruction or blunting the machinations of their authors.

Planar Pact (PP 5): A member of the Sphinx Society may use their resources and knowledge to call upon the wisdom of the sphinx, bringing a small being known as a Pseudosphinx to their aid. This in all other ways functions as planar pact brings a Pseudospinx instead and ignores alignment requirements. This sphinx will leave before the required time though if it is mistreated or otherwise impugned by its caller.
Secrets of the Chiro (PP 1): Transcribe a common spell (any spell listed in the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook, or any spell the GM feels is common in the world) from the school’s library into a wizard’s spellbook or alchemist’s formula book. This benefit does not require a Spellcraft check or any additional transcribing costs.
Secrets of the Citizens (PP 1): Gain a +5 bonus on any one Profession or Craft check representing 1 week of work. This benefit requires daily access to the libraries of the sphinx society or one of its strongholds for 1 hour each day during the week the check occurs.
Servant of the Staff (Fame 10 PP 3): Your fame within the sphinx organization has earned you the respect of The Order of Vellum, a set of cavalier orders dedicated to the protection of casters and other magi and the collection of Knowledge. You may requisition the service of an Order of The Staff Cavalier equal to half your level for one week. These cavaliers often act as body guards or lead other soldiers under their bosses employ.
Hire a Specialist (Fame 10 PP 3): You may now hire a specialist NPC up to half your level for 1 week. This NPC can be a Arcanist, Magus, Ranger, Sorcerer, Summoner, Witch, or Wizard.

|The Belisarious Circle! (Fame 10; PP 1):|
|You have garnered the attention of Belisarious Ibrahim! self proclaimed master of the arcanotheologic arts! and are offered the chance to join his circle of associates, where you may discuss religious rituals, arcane magic, and theosophic debates of occult lore.|
|You may consult the circle for research into religion, magic, and occult lore, increasing your modifier to Knowledge (arcana or religion), checks involving occult skills, or conjuration magic to +5. You may also spend an additional 2 prestige to become skilled in either Knowledge (arcana) or Knowledge (religion).|
|The Krakengaard Collective (Fame 10; PP 1):|
|You have garnered the attention of Vlad Krakengaard, head of the Kraken Caravan and member of the Miggard Dwarf Clan. He has offered you the chance to join his circle of associates, where you may discuss the mysteries of the far north, engineering marvels of Dwarven architecture, and lost Umbral Lore.|
|You may consult the circle for research into trade routes & rumors, dwarven crafts, and The Umbra, increasing your modifier to Knowledge (dungeoneering or engineering), Profession (merchant), Appraise, or checks involving evocation magic to +5. You may also spend an additional 2 prestige to become skilled in Appraise, Knowledge (dungeoneering), Knowledge (engineering ), or Profession (merchant).|
|The Isulbala Collection (Fame 10; PP 1):|
|You have garnered the attention of Ashamarjah Isulbala, rising star of the lower Octavian Senate and advocate of magic. Having impressed her with your work and deeds she has sent you a missive with the chance to join her “collection” of associates. Here, she will teach you the finer points of Oki nobility and politics as well as some of her secrets of enchantment. All you have to do is fascinate her with your research and remember to back your most humble patron in her bid to Aedile at your next election…|
|You may consult the circle for research into nobility, politics, and history of the Exiles, increasing your modifier to Knowledge (history, local, or nobility) or checks involving enchantment magic to +5. You may also spend an additional 2 prestige to become skilled in either Knowledge (history, local, or nobility).|
|The Parade of Fools and Figments (Fame 10; PP 1):|
|You have garnered the attention of Illyrian the Seamrog. Poet and member of the Fair Court, Illyrian is an accomplished Illusionist and chronicler of the comings and goings of the court proper. You have drawn the interest of the chronicler, and if you can learn the meter, can join in his studies of what is, isn’t, and where the line doesn’t exist.|
|You may consult the circle for research into illusion, poetry, and Fairfolk lore, increasing your modifier to Knowledge (arcana or nature), checks involving Fey lore or illusion magic to +5. You may also spend an additional 2 prestige to become skilled in Knowledge (arcana), Knowledge (nature), or Artistry.|
Summon the Sphinx (Fame 20 PP 3): You call upon one of the societies greatest allies, a sphinx. One of a dozen of these mythical creatures that is on friendly terms with the society answers the call. This ability functions as planar ally with the ability to call 1 non evil Sphinx of 12 HD or less. The society member must negotiate and pay for the sphinxes service, though she can spend points from her PP to have her order pay the price for the service. If the Society member is a poor negotiator, she can pay 1 PP to hire a charismatic advocate to argue on her behalf. The Sphinx can take a few days to arrive as it travels to the point of the summons. This Sphinx is an ally who has been pulled away from his own works and can be aloof and/or aggravated by this calling but aids as he can.
Professor (Fame 20 PP 4): Your connection with the Sphinx Society and your work understanding the many academic disciplines has paid off, granting you the title of Professor and the right to teach in your given topic. Select one knowledge skill which you have ranks in, it is now a class skill and may be used to make day job checks to earn a living and to make Artistry checks to create works meant for the Academy of Knowledge and the Sphinx Society. You may take this title multiple times, each time selecting another knowledge skill.

|Your skill in riddles and languages only grows, and you feel a connection to speech that almost permeates your blood.|
|You gain Skill Focus (Linguistics) as a bonus feat.|
|A Belisarious BREAKTHROUGH! (Belisarious Circle member; Fame 20; PP 5):|
|Your time corresponding with Belisarious and his Scholars of Ibilis have born fruits! The secrets of the Outer Truths are unraveling, and you are here to greet them!!!|
|You gain a Conduit Feat that you meet the prerequisites for. It must be from a nonevil plane.|
|The Isulbala Patronage (Fame 20; PP 5):|
|After much time and excruciating effort, Senator Isulbala has reached peak interest. She offers you her patronage, willing to help fund your lifestyle and research. Of course, you must glorify her with all your accomplishments, but what price is that to keep your research funded?|
|You gain the Noble Stipend feat as a bonus feat ignoring prerequisites. This feat may also be used to research the creation of new spells. PCs lose this feat if they ever openly defame or debase the good name of Senator Isulbala.|
|Spirit Mentor (Scholar Fame 20; PP 5):|
|Your training and devotion to the craft have proved your skills to the members of the Society, and they have taught you secret ways to contact some of their greatest allies, and become students to extraplanar mentors or even their greatest allies, the sphinxes!|
|You gain the Planar Mentor (PHH) feat. Your selection must be a nonevil outsider, or a nonevil sphinx. These creatures must have the extraplanar trait or otherwise fit the description. Choices for this boon should be discussed with your GM prior to selection.|
Sage (PP 5; Professor): Your countless hours of exposure to academia have granted you an intimate and unconscious understanding of one of the spheres of learning. Select one Knowledge skill. You can make untrained checks with this skill up to a maximum of DC 20 instead of the normal limit of DC 10. You may select this title multiple times, each time selecting a different Knowledge skill.
Secrets of the Sphinx (Fame 30 PP 2): Transcribe an uncommon or rare spell (at the GM’s discretion) from the school’s library into a wizard’s spellbook or alchemist’s formula book. This benefit does not require a Spellcraft check or any additional transcribing costs.
Secrets of the Andros (Fame 30 PP 2+): Perform independent spell research to create a new spell. This research takes 1 week, and the cost is 2 PP per spell level of the new spell. This replaces the normal 1,000 gp per week per spell level cost listed on page 219 of the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook. This can also be used to bring spells from other books into beyond your classes starter book into the game as mentioned before. This requires access to one of the Sphinx societies libraries and resources.

|Your work has become so impressive that you have attracted the attention of Ernst Stargrave, a leading academic in ancient civilizations, mortals, and the power of the stars. Thanks to your fame and influence you have been invited to join his Circle, and may write to him and tap his prodigious knowledge on these topics.|
Fame 30 PP 3: Gain the temporary service of a neutral good, lawful good, chaotic good outsider or an aeon of up to 12 HD as if using planar ally. The Society member must negotiate and pay for the outsider’s service, though she can spend points from her PP to have her order pay the price for the service. If the Society member is a poor negotiator, she can pay 1 PP to hire a charismatic advocate to argue on her behalf.

Friend of the People (Fame 40, PP 4, Professor): Your work with magic and your drive to further the cause of magic for positive use has granted you acclaim outside of your organization. Pick another faction, you gain a +2 on all Diplomacy & Sense Motive checks with members of that faction. This title can be taken multiple times, each time one must select a new faction.
